Where To Eat Out In North San Diego County And Still Eat Healthy
I love eating out in San Diego, and still know I can stay on my mostly vegan diet (no animal products) and have good flavor. I like to eat some different cultures, cultures that I normally wouldn’t make at home.
Thai Food: I love Thai food without all the added salts and extra oils. I like Taste of Thai on Via Del Via in Del Mar as they have mock chicken and mock beef made from wheat gluten and brown rice. I always get some vegetable curry and there fresh spring rolls are excellent. Soups are good as well. More an more places are having great began choices. Be sure to tell them no MSG mono sodium glutamate very high salty spice used in lots of Chinese restaurants.
Smoothies / Healthy: Ki’s in Encinitas on the 101 across from the ocean has great views and a variety of great healthy choices. I like their veggie stir fry with tofu and brown rice. That have a great juice bar for fresh green drinks and fruit smoothies. They have been around for years.
Vegetarian: The Lotus Cafe in the Lumber yard has many excellent veggie meals. I love there Tempe tamales with there salad and goddess dressing. Naked Cafe has several locations I go to either the one on El Camino Real in Encinitas in the Home Goods shopping center. Their blueberry pancakes and veggie stir fry with tofu and sesame soy dressing is great. The restaurant in Solana Beach is excellent as you can walk on the beach after filling your belly.
Vegetarian: I also like Sipz if your in San Diego off Clairemont Blvd. Sipz Fusion Cafe is just off the 805 east has an all-vegetarian menu, and will serve brown rice instead of white rice on request. If I go for Mexican I always get the veggie fajitas without green peppers as they are not ripe! If you ever grow them they come in green and turn red. They can cause stomach issues, gas, diarrhea so I just tell them light oil and no salt more of all they other veggies.
Veggie Burgers: The newer Counter Restaurants have a great veggie burger and I get 1/2 lb over bed of spring mix, sesame soy dressing, avocado and tomatoes as you get four free toppings. They are popping up all over. I go to the one in Del Mar Heights shopping center or the Counter Restaurant at Forum shopping center in Carlsbad.
Pizza: I love the salad pizza on a whole wheat crust at CPA California Pizza Kitchen and also the veggie pizza on whole wheat crust I get both and share them. There are locations all over California.
Just don’t be afraid to ask for well prepared food because its your meal and you should be able to get it the way you want!
